Barefoot Forest Campaign “Walking Back to Our Roots, Reconnecting with Nature and Culture”

Objectives

  • To provide youth with immersive experiences connecting them to nature and traditional knowledge.
  • To foster understanding and appreciation of indigenous culture and heritage.
  • To encourage environmental stewardship and climate-conscious practices.
  • To strengthen youth engagement through experiential and participatory activities.

Summary

The Barefoot Forest Campaign invited youth to step away from digital distractions and immerse themselves in the forest. Walking barefoot and guided by an indigenous village leader, participants explored ancient trails and sacred sites while learning Mro weaving patterns and the rhythms of the Plung instrument.

The campaign emphasized experiential learning: participants listened, observed, and interacted with nature, reflecting on cultural narratives, biodiversity, and the importance of harmonious living. Every activity encouraged connection—to the land, to tradition, and to one another.

By the end, participants gained a deeper appreciation for their heritage, a stronger sense of belonging, and inspiration to carry forward cultural and environmental awareness. The campaign celebrated the intersection of youth empowerment, indigenous knowledge, and ecological consciousness, demonstrating how culture and nature together can guide sustainable living.
